Hanalei
and the North Shore of Kauai bewitch residents and visitors
alike. They say it is our good earth’s most precious jewel.
KAWEONUI
BEACH, in a secluded cove just below The House, means “beautiful
to behold”. The reef comes close to shore, which makes it a
favorite snorkeling, and fishing spot nicknamed “The Farm”.
“Thank you for providing the perfect
Kauai getaway. We loved secluded Kaweonui beach…terrific
snorkeling!”
Amy and Mac, San Francisco, CA
HANALEI VALLEY, the State’s largest Taro growing
area, has had Taro patches, Kalo lo’i, under cultivation for
1,200 years. Poi, a staple food of Hawaiians, is made from Taro.
The Valley, a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Refuge since 1972, is home
to four endangered species of wetland water birds.
PRINCEVILLE BEACHES mostly hidden and often
deserted are a wonderful keep "secret". There are
three cove beaches in Princeville, the pictured Pu’u Poa
(thumping point), Kenomene (surfers call it
"Hideaways") and secluded Kaweonui.
HANALEI BAY, a two-mile long half-moon of sandy beach
with a historic pier (once used by whaler ships) and backed by
tropical waterfall-laden mountains, is exquisitely beautiful.
World-class surfers, out-rigger canoe paddlers and just plain
folks all love it!
PRINCEVILLE MAKAI GOLF Course, as well as
Princeville Prince Course, were designed by Robert Trent Jones,
Jr. with the heart of a sportsman and eye of an artist. Besides
world-class golf Princeville Resort offers, tennis, a health spa
and so much more.
NAPALI COAST State Park is accessible on foot from the
North Shore via the 11-mile ancient Hawaiian Kalalau
trail. One of the world’s magnificent treasures, the
coast offers up heart-stopping views of five lush valleys,
waterfalls, and ancient Hawaiian ruins.
TUNNELS (Makua) BEACH protected by two reefs,
has a large lagoon for swimming and snorkeling. Its outer reef
is favored by surfers while snorkelers and fish galore like the
inner reef. Makana Peak, "Bali Hai", in the movie
South Pacific, is seen at the far end.
